"This vintage starts off with a bigger sense of fruit weight and texture. The Tenuta San Leonardo 2019 San Leonardo is a little more accessible in the medium term (for a wine that notoriously requires many years of cellaring to show its best results). Fruit flavors embrace blackcurrant, spice and cured tobacco. There is a hit of black pepper in this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère and Merlot, but otherwise you get more ripeness in this medium- to full-bodied vintage."

Masses of white pepper, sage, incense, sandy earth and fresh tobacco give way to dusty redcurrants. This wine is a paragon of elegance yet savoury and flavoursome at its core, with mineral red and black fruits flowing over a silky texture. The 2019 finishes classically dry with a crisp tannin but retains an impossible freshness as the savoury herbal tones slowly fade. It's stunning and reminiscent of the absolute top vintages I've ever tasted from San Leonardo."
