"Medium bright orange-tinged red. Pretty aromas of strawberry, myrtle-leaved orange tree (chinotto, in Italian), violet and herbs. Very fresh, lively and less rich in acid freshness than the regular Bussia but with more fruit so as to make it less piercing than the classic Barolo Bussia. A very broad and dense Colonnello (much more so than usual), this is most likely the result of the sandy soil interacting in some unexpected manner with the roots of the vines in what was a warmer year to give a rather different Colonnello than usual. Why and how exactly this happened, with a cru that is characterized by a high soil sand content, escapes me somewhat, but this Colonnello will immediately strike all those in the know as being less perfumed but much bigger structure and density than it normally is. To be clear, a wine that is less typical of the specific cru, but a great wine nonetheless. Drinking window: 2030-2042."
